The questions of integrated development environments (IDEs) came up in today’s class, and I love this xkcd cartoon:

(For anyone interested, I’m firmly committed to Vim because it’s universally available on Unix-like operating systems.)

That cartoon made me think of a blog post titled “A Magentized Needle and a Steady Hand” where true is written byte-by-byte using nothing by echo. The post is well-worth the read, particularly for any cyber science majors who end up doing a fair amount of low-level programming.
