How to Complete this Lesson

Complete the following learning activities: (2 hours total)

  1. Read Development Process in UML Distilled (30 minutes)

Although we have not yet covered the Unified Modeling Language (UML), this chapter provides a good introduction in the context of how it is used in a software development process. Thus, this reading provides a good overview of many of the topics covered to date.

  2. Review the relevant chapters in Software Engineering (time varies)

Re-reading is not an effective study strategy: numerous studies have shown that re-reading does not improve learning although it often increases the perception of mastery.

Identify gaps in your understanding of material (e.g., by completing the reading guides or handouts without referencing any resources and comparing your answers to the solutions). Then, review those topics where you had trouble or performed poorly.

  3. Complete the practice graded reviews (GRs)

    Practice I (15 minutes)
This practice GR draws on question banks developed for individual lessons. The questions typically focus on recall and understand and are not representative of actual GR questions that emphasize application of the concepts.
    Practice II (60 minutes)
  4. Take the graded review (GR) during the class meeting (60 minutes)
  5. Complete the specification (30 minutes)
    • Revise sections for consistent grammar, style, etc.
